Day 17 – John 4:1-26  Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman

Jesus talks to a Samaritan and a woman.  What is the significance of this? Compare and contrast the type of water that the woman is thinking of and the type of water that Jesus is talking about.  What is her reason for wanting this living water?  How does Jesus take that and introduce her to true living water?

Day 18 – Matthew 5 – Sermon on the Mount (1)
(Short version – Matthew 5:1-17 & 43-48)

We are now hearing Jesus’s sermon.  How is Jesus’ view of what is good and fair different from our view of what is good and fair? Jesus says at the end to “be perfect, as your heavenly father is perfect.”  Reflect on what perfection is for God.

Day 19 – Matthew 6 – Sermon on the Mount (2)
(Short version – Matthew 6:1-15 & 25-34)

Jesus continues to talk about how we should live that is different than how most people live.  What motivates our actions compared to the other people’s (hypocrites)? So why shouldn’t we worry?

Day 20 – Matthew 7 – Sermon on the Mount (3)
(Short version – Matthew 7:1-12)

We come to the end of Jesus’s sermon.  What is the summary of the Law and the Prophets?  Is this an easy task?  How can we do what Jesus tells us to do?

Day 21 – Mark 2:1-13 – Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

What does the paralyzed man want from Jesus, and what does Jesus tell him?  Compare this story to the story of the samaritan woman at the well.  They both want something different from what Jesus is giving them.  What do they truly need? What does this say about sin?

Day 22 – Matthew 8:5-13 – The Faith of the Centurion
(Short version – Luke 7:1-10)

A centurion is Roman officer overseeing about 100 men that is part of the Roman occupation army in Israel.  What does authority have to do with great faith?
